The company was incorporated under the name of AMW Capital Leasing Ltd on 05th July 2006 as a specialized leasing company. In November 2008, it obtained Finance Company status from the Monetary Board of Central Bank of Sri Lanka, thereby gaining approval to accept deposits from the public. In August 2011, AMW Capital Leasing and Finance PLC obtained a listing in the Colombo Stock Exchange and became a public quoted company. In July 2008, Associated Motorways (Private) Limited, was acquired by Al-Futtaim Engineering (AFE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Al-Futtaim group.
